Vent Problems in Chickens
A problem with the Vent (the area where the egg, urine, faeces and urate pass) due to infection, being egg bound or a prolapse.
Symptoms of Vent Problems are as follows:
- Swelling in the area
- Redness
- Discharge
- Feathers stuck to Vent
- Odour
- Pecking at back end.
Prevention, management and Treatment:
- Actual vent problems are serious and should be seen by a Vet. Treatment involves feeding chicken back to full health, increasing immunity, reducing stress and medications for any infection.
