Bumble Foot in Chickens

Bumble Foot is severe swelling of the foot caused by the bacteria Staphylococcus Auerus. The bacteria enters via a cut or ulcer and begins to infect the area.

Symptoms of Bumble Foot are as follows:

• Balding of scales on foot
• redness
• swelling

Prevention, management and Treatment:

• Removed affect bird from the flock
• Treat all injuries by cleaning daily with sterile saline, diluted betadine or antibiotic creams.
